We all know how welcome a nice café is after an outdoor activity of some kind, and we think these establishments deserve greater recognition.

With this is mind, we are compiling a list of good refreshment stops on or near the Green Chain.

Want to explore a bit of the Green Chain but not sure where to start ?
If so don't worry- we have put together 5 "Great Days Out" that takes all the hassle out of planning what to do, where to go and how to get there.

Each of the 5 days out has been carefully selected, and combines a recreational/health activity (walking) with at least one heritage or site attraction. You will be amazed by the rich diversity on offer, from ancient woodlands to historic mansions and splendid palaces. To add to the fun, each Green Chain day out has connections to a famous film or TV series you may have seen.

Each point of arrival and departure on your day out can be handily reached by train or bus, and all sites selected provide toilet, picnic and refreshment facilities for hot and cold meals. What's more, all the attractions (with the exception of Eltham Palace and Gardens) are free to visit.
