The Green Chain - Section 4

1 Facing the Green Chain major signpost in Charlton Park, turn left and leave the park. Turn right and follow Cemetery Lane to its junction with Charlton Park Lane.

2 Turn left along Charlton Park Lane to Repository Road. Cross repository Road
and follow the path parallel with Ha-Ha Road to the junction with Woolwich New
Road.

3 Cross over Woolwich New Road at the traffic lights, go along Nightingale Place and up Plumstead Common Road.

4 At the Prince of Wales pub turn left into St. Margaret’s Grove. Then turn right to enter Plumstead Common. Pass the war memorial and the children’s playground. Cross over Blendon Terrace, then pass the tennis courts and bowling green. Cross over Waverley Crescent to reach the Green Chain major signpost.

If you wish to walk from here to Shrewsbury Park and Oxleas Wood go to point 9. Or if you want to carry on to Bostall Wood follow points 5 to 8.

5 From Waverley Crescent go across the green to Warwick Terrace. Head right from here and then cross over Old Mill Road. Turn immediately left to cross over Warwick Terrace. Turn right then left along the path behind the shelter. Turn right and follow the marker posts parallel with Old Mill Road. Go down the steps to the pond at ‘The Slade’, and then up the other side.

6 Cross Lakedale Road and head left to follow around the children’s playground. Go across the Common to Winns Common Road and the end of Riverdale Road. Turn right opposite Purrett Road to the open grass area. Follow around the sports pitch to the Green Chain major signpost at the top of the steps, and turn left.

7 Walk down the steps into Great Bartletts Woods. Follow the path on to Wickham Lane, cross over to Rutherglen Road then turn immediately left down the steps into the open space. Follow around to the right and go into Bostall Woods.

8 Climb the steps crossing a number of paths. Turn right and follow the marker posts through the woods, this brings you on to Longleigh Lane at the Green Chain major signpost. 1

follow points 9 to 13

9 From the Green Chain major signpost at Plumstead Common turn right, and follow Waverley Crescent and cross over Plumstead Common Road at the crossing.

10 Turn right, then immediately left and follow Ennis Road, crossing the end of two roads before taking the steps to the left leading up to Upton Road. Turn left along Upton Road, and after the bend in the road, head left up the steps and follow the marker posts along the path between the allotments. Cross the unmade Dothill Road and enter Shrewsbury Park, you will need to go uphill to reach the Green Chain major signpost.

11 At the Green Chain major signpost, turn left along the fence to go across the open space. Leave Shrewsbury Park by turning right up Mereworth Drive. At the cross-roads, turn left into Kinlet Road and Castlefield Road (you will pass tennis courts on your left). At Foxcroft Road bear right and go across Eaglesfield Recreation Ground and around the rear of the play area. Leaving Eaglesfield Recreation Ground brings you onto Cleanthus Road.

12 Turn left and follow Cleanthus road to Shooters Hill (this may also be signposted as Dover Road), turn right and then left to cross the road at the bollards. Keep heading right along Shooters Hill, and turn left to go along Kenilworth Gardens, then left again to go along Crown Woods lane.

13 Walk down Crown Woods Lane as far as the car park and follow the path to the Green Chain signpost alongside the pavilion. 11
