 1  This journey starts from Southend Road. Go along Stumps Hill Lane, which is between bus stops U and T. At the Green Chain major signpost turn left and go along Worsley Bridge Road. At the end of the road turn right into Brackley Road towards the church.

 2  keep going along Brackley Road and turn left into Copers Cope Road. Take the first road on the right (Park Road) and pass through the subway under the railway and into Lennard Road.

 3  Carry on along Lennard Road and turn left into King’s Hall Road.

 4  Keep going along King’s Hall Road then turn right between 173 and 175 Kings Hall Road. Go into Cator Park, and follow the marker posts to the Green Chain major signpost, where the paths meet. Head right and follow the path, this takes you to the north west corner, where you can leave the park at Lennard Road.

Beckenham Place Park
to Crystal Palace

3½ miles (1 hour 45 minutes)
 5  Turn left along Lennard Road to the traffic lights and then right into Kent House Road.

 6  Follow Kent House Road and turn left between 148 and 150 Kent House Road.  Then cross the playing fields to Cator Road and turn right along Cator Road. Carry on along Cator Road to where it becomes Trewsbury Road.

 7  Turn left into an unmade road, which leads to Alexandra Recreation Ground. Follow the marker posts through the park past the Green Chain major signpost, this brings you to Maitland Road.

 8  Follow Maitland Road and turn right to follow Lennard Road to where it meets Newlands Park (the road). Turn left here and cross the footbridge at Penge East Station.

 9  After going down the footbridge, turn right and follow Station Road. Then turn left into Kingswood Road to reach Penge High Street. Cross over the street at the pelican crossing, then turn right to go under the two railway bridges to reach Thicket Road.

10 Cross over Thicket Road and go into Crystal Palace Park. Follow the signs and marker posts heading left to the lake then 

right and left past the Irish Elks statues. Keep going straight ahead over the stone bridge. Turn left, then left again over the iron bridge, and go left around the lake edge containing the monsters. Turn right at the crossroads, and follow the path past the entrance to the children’s farm (open daily with free entry). Continue to follow the directional wooden posts which will bring you to the Green Chain main sign near  Crystal Palace railway station. This is the  start of Section 11 of the Green Chain Walk,  where the Capital Ring diverts to the left  past the station entrance.
