Nunhead Cemetery - a local nature reserve

The cemetery is a nature reserve that supports a wide range of both native and exotic plants. It's also a haven for wildlife, 16 species of buttery have been found within the cemetery.

The reserve also contains examples of the magnicent monuments erected in memory of the most eminent citizens of the day, which contrast sharply with the small, simple headstones marking common, or public, burials.
